We currently lead on a number of local and citywide initiatives, such as the Achievement Project, the b-active women project and the Braunstone Sports Festival. We are also in the early stages of facilitating the creation of a new ‘Young People’s Sports Network’, which will see a number of new local sessions and events be created for local residents.
Please use the links below to read more about the projects / initiatives that we are currently involved in:
The Achievement Project offers free or reduced cost sport, physical activity and employment courses; as well as volunteering and employment opportunities.
It also offers apprenticeship opportunities within sport.
The b-active Women Project offers women in deprived communities in Leicester and women who are the primary carers for children, under the age of 16, the opportunity to take part in sport and tackle any barriers that they may face. The project will provide a ‘one stop sport shop’ for women who are interested in participating, coaching or volunteering.
Braunstone Sports Festival
The Braunstone Sports Festival is an annual event that has now been running for the past 4 years. It runs alongside the Braunstone Community Carnival every summer and offers attendees the opportunity to participate in a number of sports / activities and find out about sessions / opportunities in their local area.
Young Peoples Sports Network
The Young Peoples Sports Network (YPSN) looks to promote sport as a vehicle to improve the lifestyles of residents throughout the community. The YPSN is run by a committee of local young people and applies for funding to set up sport and fitness sessions, alongside community events within Braunstone and other areas.
b-active are currently coordinating an element of the Sustainable Transport project within the City. This involves the delivery, in partnership with Go-Travel Solutions, of workshops to business within identified areas, giving them tips on sustainable transport, low cost commuting, reducing their carbon footprint and also the opportunity to apply for grants to help facilitate this.
