b-connected is a network which works through neighbourhood support teams to look after our community and address everyday issues. We work to organise, help and support local initiatives aiming to provide real benefits for all our residents.  

 

The Braunstone Alert is a community newsletter produced every 2 months.

It provides a chance for everybody with something useful to say to share their opinions, inform the community of news or events and discuss local issues. We have about 85 outlets where you can pick up a copy including:

  • The BRITE Centre – Braunstone Ave.
  • Braunstone Leisure Centre – Hamelin Rd
  • The Lodge – Braunstone Park
  • Neighbourhood Support Office – Wellinger Way
  • Business Box – Oswin Rd.
  • Health and Social Care Centre – Hockley Farm Rd

And most local schools, community centres and Shops!

Placement:

Details: The Alert staff are looking for volunteers to help gather information for the Alert. This would include interviewing people, taking photos and writing stories. You would be supported in putting information in to the Alert and on media websites. You would receive on the job training from the coordinator and other team members.                   

  

Role: Braunstone Alert team member  
Venue: b-connected office – Wellinger Way and wider community
Day / Time: Week days  ( flexible times )
Regularity: Weekly
Requirements: Good communication skills, be able to collect information and share it with your  team, have an interest in IT and be trustworthy and reliable.

 

Placement:

Details:The Talk Time team are looking for volunteers to get involved in a social group for older adults. You would be supporting activities such as bingo, quizzes, board games etc. help with making refreshments and make people feel welcome.                  

    

Role: Talk Time volunteer  
Venue: Bridges House – Blackmore Drive, Bowder House – Herle Avenue and Summer’s Cafe - Cort Crescent
Day / Time:Alternate Wednesdays at Bridges House- 2pm -3pm. Alternate Fridays at Bowder House -11am-12noon and every Monday at Summer’s café 10.30am -11.30am
Regularity: Weekly
Requirements: Good communication skills particularly with older people (over 60). Be relaxed and be able to encourage a friendly atmosphere. Listening skills are important as residents may be looking forward to having someone to talk to.

 

Placement:

Details:The Braunstone Befriending Scheme are looking for volunteers to help tackle loneliness and isolation among the over 60s in our community. We want volunteers to be a listening ear and offer social interaction for our befriendees, giving them individual attention.                 


    

Role: Braunstone Befriender
Venue: Based at b-connected but visiting befriendees in their own home.
Day / Time: Minimum of two hours a week. Weekdays
Regularity: Weekly, must be available most weeks. Once a volunteer is matched with a befriendee it is expected that the placement will last for at least 6 months.
Requirements: Good communication skills particularly with older people over 60. Be able  to demonstrate that you are trustworthy and reliable. Be willing to  provide references and have a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. you would need to take part in a small training session. Be non- judgemental and respect others life choices. You should be in reasonable  health as your befriendee may be more susceptible to coughs, colds, bugs etc.  please be considerate of their health.

Details: The Events team are looking for volunteers to help raise awareness of the project and its events. You would be involved in the planning, organising and hosting of an event.                  


      

Role: Event Team Volunteer
Venue: b-connected 45 Wellinger Way – wider community
Day / Time: You would need to be available for planning session before the event and clearing   away and evaluations after the event.
Regularity: As and when needed
Requirements: Be able to work well in a team, have good communication skills, a good people person,  and share relevant information with the team. You would need to be able to follow instructions and be able to help set up activities

Details:The Foodshare team are looking for volunteers to pick up food donations, sort food donations, pickers and packers to bag up, give out food bags to our service users, sign them in and make people feel welcome with a friendly face and a chat.                      


        

Role: Braunstone Foodshare team member
Venue: St Peter’s Church, United Reformed Church and Brite Centre
Day / Time: Mondays and Tuesdays ( flexible times ) 
Regularity: Weekly
Requirements: Good communication skills, be organised and manage your time well. Knowledge of  safe food handling, be responsible for the safety of your own work area. Be trustworthy   and respect confidentiality. Non- judgemental and respect others life choices.

 

Placement:

Details: The Garage Sale are looking for volunteers to join the team and help with receiving, sorting and/or selling our many and varied weekly donations. Front of house or behind the scenes – we have a role for you.                 


 

Role: Garage Sale volunteer
Venue: b-connected 45 Wellinger Way – Garage area.
Day / Time: Mondays and Tuesdays ( flexible times ) 
Regularity:Weekdays best days are Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays  ( flexible times)
Requirements: Be able to work well in a team, have good communication skills, a good people person, good money sense and an eye for a bargin.
